With profound sorrow, the International Association of Computer Science in Sport (IACSS) commemorates the life and enduring influence of Professor Dr. Jürgen Per. He stands as an illustrious figure in the realm of computer science in sport and a pivotal co-founder of our organization. Professor Perl’s invaluable contributions to our field and his stewardship within IACSS have indelibly shaped our community. His memory shall remain eternally honored.
Professor Jürgen Perl played a pivotal role in sculpting the landscape of computer science in sport through pioneering endeavors. He spearheaded a series of academic conferences on sports and informatics and authored a collection of seminar books, thereby laying the bedrock for the evolution of computer science as an academic discipline applied to sports. Recognized as the “founding father” of the Sports Informatics section of the German Association of Sport Science (DVS), he received the prestigious Golden Honorary Pin from the DVS in 2015 in acknowledgment of his substantial contributions to the DVS.
Beyond his written works, Professor Perl’s dedication to advancing computer science in sport was unwavering. He emerged as a pivotal co-founder of IACSS and served as its inaugural chairman from 2003 to 2007. His visionary leadership during this formative period played a critical role in establishing IACSS as a preeminent international organization in our field.
The contributions of Professor Dr. Jürgen Perl to the domain of computer science in sport have been remarkable.
